Charlie Lewis Biography
Who is Charlie Lewis?
One mother has said her daughter was traumatized by a ‘Bad Saint’ who was caught smoking in public and slurring words during an encounter with the children.
Charli Lewis, 26, said she was “disappointed” by the festive experience at a kids’ club in Radcliffe, Greater Manchester, which left 6-year-old Layla with “a lot of questions.”
Her concerns first arose when she arrived at the scene and she saw the Santa Claus impersonator ‘smoking a cigarette’ in full view of the children.
Charlie Lewis, 26, brought her six-year-old daughter Layla to see Santa Claus at the Radcliffe Girls and Boys Club
Once Layla finally managed to get together for Santa, Lewis said that he looked “slumped on the couch” and that he had made no effort to be festive.
- She said: ‘He was slumped on the couch. He was not happy at all.
- There was no effort in his voice. Nothing that looks like Santa at all.
- “I felt like he had let her down as her mother.”
- It was shared on Facebook so I thought I’d give it a try.
However, Ms. Lewis began to notice some red flags as soon as she reached the parking lot of the meeting location.
She said: ‘We got to the parking lot, and he was smoking a cigarette in sight with his bird around his neck.
‘I just tried to stop Layla in the car and make it a little longer, so he wouldn’t see.
But she said, “Oh look, there’s Santa.”
I don’t know if she saw the cigarette in her mouth.
Later, Ms Lewis said that the organizer of the event asked Santa Claus to ‘go back to his Grotto’, a comment that seemed to leave him confused.
She said: ‘We followed him a little later, and we were right behind him, and the event organizer had said,’ Go back to your grotto. ‘
She replied that he had forgotten where he was.
She said, “He would never knowingly make a child uncomfortable, and several other children left feeling very happy and told us that we had done a good job and that they would come back.”
In her spare time, Ms. Lewis works with Radcliffe garbage collectors, and her fellow volunteers have now paid for a trip to Santa’s Grotto at Radcliffe Christmas Markets.
A spokesperson for the garbage collectors said: ‘A good Santa Claus keeps alive the magic of Christmas, which is so important to a child’s early years.
“They need to have a good first experience, so we want to help clean up Layla’s bad memory.”
