Duane Bailey Wiki
Duane Bailey Biography
Who is Duane Bailey?
Duane Bailey’s brother, Bill Bailey, 67, was killed in April 2019 when an uncontrolled semi-trailer loaded with wood crashed int cars on the interstate, causing a massive crowd and a fireball explosion.
Rogel Aguilera-Mederos, 26, was sentenced last months to 110 years behind bars after being convicted of 27 counts, including reckless and careless driving.
But after widespread public backlash, including from Kim Kardashian, Gov. Jared Polis made the rare decision to cut the sentence to just 10 year.
Duane Bailey called the Democrat a “despicable human being” and accused the governor of using the wildfires in the state to distract attention from his decision.
“You also have to realize that the full 10 years in which the governor imposed the sentence will not pass. He could be out in as little as 5 years ”Bailey told CBS Denver. Would his brother’s life be adequately compensated for if he spent a year and a quarter of his death in prison?
The impact caused a fireball explosion that incinerated cars and trucks, killing four people and injuring several more. Aguilera-Mederos testified that the brakes on his semitrailer failed when he descended a steep incline off Interstate 70 in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains.
Colorado Gov. Jared Polis (pictured) said the “atypical” sentence was “unfair.”
He said Aguilera-Mederos lied about her experience on her job application and “exaggerated job titles.”
But in October, a jury found him guilty of 27 criminal charges, including:
Four counts of vehicular manslaughter
Two counts of vehicular assault
Six counts of assault in the first degree with extreme indifference
10 counts of criminal attempt to commit assault in the first degree
A reckless driving load
Four reckless driving charges that resulted in death
He was also found not guilty of 15 counts of attempted criminal battery in the first degree.
Before his sentencing last month, Aguilera-Mederos pleaded with the judge to be lenient with him, breaking down in tears as he spoke.
“I never thought of hurting anyone in my entire life and Jesus Christ, he knows it, he knows my heart,” he continued. “I am not a criminal, I am not a murderer.
