A421 fatal crash: Tributes paid to mother and daughter

The family of a “devoted” mother and her “brilliant” teenage daughter paid tribute to them after they were killed in an accident involving a car, van and truck.

Emma, 55, and Khiana van der Avoird, 16,of Little Paxton in Cambridgeshire, died at the scene on Monday.

The Accident

The accident took place at approximately 08:00 GMT on the A421, near the Black Cat roundabout, near St Neots.

A man in his 20s arrested in connection with the incident was released on bail, Bedfordshire police said.

Tributes were paid to a mother and daughter who died in a terrible three-vehicle accident in their morning school run.

Bedfordshire Police have called for any witnesses or anyone with dash cam footage to come forward.

Emma van

Emma van der Avoird, 55, was taking her 16-year-old daughter Khiana to Bedford Morden School in Bedfordshire on Monday, November 1.

The fatal accident occurred at approximately 8 am when an HGV van, car and truck were involved in a collision traveling westbound between the Black Cat roundabout and the A428.

The mother and  daughter, from Little Paxton in Cambridgeshire, died at the scene.

A man in his 20s was arrested in connection with the incident and has since been released on bail.

Emma and Khiana had previously lost her husband and father Ed, who passed away suddenly in 2011.

Mrs. Van der Avoird was taking her daughter to Bedford Modern School when the accident occurred.

Statement

In a statement, her family said: “Emma and Khiana were as close as any mother and daughter could be.

“Emma was a devoted mother who had given her heart and soul to Khiana’s care since the sudden death of her husband and her father, Ed, 10 years ago.

“We will all miss Emma and Khiana very much, but we are comforted by the fact that they have been reunited as a family.”

Bedfordshire Police have called for any witnesses or anyone with dash cam footage to come forward.

In a statement, the family said: ‘Our family is overwhelmed with sadness and grief over the deaths of Emma and Khiana under such tragic circumstances.

‘They were both vibrant, strong and direct people. Emma was on her way to take Khiana to Bedford Modern School where she was a bright and popular student.

Death of her Husband

Emma and Khiana were as close as possible to any mother and daughter. Emma was a devoted mother who had given her heart and soul to Khiana’s care since the sudden death of her husband and her father Ed hers 10 years ago.

“Khiana was at the beginning of her life and she was a beautiful and talented girl.”

The Family

The family added: ‘We are devastated that they have been taken from us when they both still had a lot to live for.

“We will all miss Emma and Khiana very much, but we are comforted by the fact that they have been reunited as a family.”
